The Calm

Hi everybody, and welcome back to your favourite blogging ski instructor in Méribel. It's been a very enjoyable start to the 2018/19 winter season, with lovely snow conditions that reminds us why we love this sport so much. The weather has been changeable - one day it's gorgeous and sunny, the next day it's windy, and snowing with flat light. But that's ok, because we have been getting regular top ups of fresh snow, which is really important with the Festive period on the way.

I've been lucky enough to have skied quite a lot the last month, so this week I'm taking some down time in order to be fresh for the next few weeks. However no killing time in the apartment, or local bars drinking endless coffees for me. It's a great opportunity to still enjoy the mountains, especially here in the Méribel valley.

Just a short distance above Méribel-Mottaret, and less than 10 minutes walk from the lift area, is the Plan de Tueda Nature Reserve. To say it is beautiful is an understatement. It's dead simple to walk there and well worth it.

This area is visible from the ski pistes. However, being down at ground level instead of looking from above, helps you appreciate your surroundings even more, especially if you are focusing on trying to stay upright on skis!

And you never know who you might bump into. I love the surface frost on the snowman's head, it looks like he has hair!

Anyway, enough of this non-skiing stuff now. I'll be back soon with more details of the snow conditions, and perhaps sharing some ski instructor knowledge - I've an idea brewing that might be of interest. In a few days the resort will start to fill up with more visitors, and I'll be back teaching full time for the next few weeks. It should be really good up the mountain, especially as it's snowing outside my apartment again as I conclude this post. Live With Passion. Martin.
